Winter Votes : The Leopard Coat

With the temperatures steadily dropping day by day, the need for a chic winter coat that encompasses both style and substance is becoming more and more apparent. Queue: the Leopard Coat. Jungle spots in warm hues feel strangely at home in dreary London town; making this trend a popular one.

The Leopard coat takes shape in many forms, my favourite being oversized. Winter has taken to the Maculin-FĂ©minin trend in a big way; menswear inspired womenswear storming the catwalks at fashion week. Something about big boxy silhouettes on petit frames proves to be both incredibly flattering and chic - making the trend a design favourite.

When thinking of leopard print, images of the 80s spring to mind - however the statement print is timeless; gathering quite an A-list following (including thrice award winning style maven Alexa Chung). The leopard coat is not just limited to fluffy fur (or faux fur) but also comes in sleeker mink versions as seen in Burberry's winter collection.

Team your bold outer layer, with basic neutral colours - black works best - for an effortless way to liven any outfit.  The beauty of the leopard coat is the instantaneous lift it gives to an outfit; without appearing too 'try-hard'.

Here are some of my favourite highstreet leopard print picks of the season (if like myself the £22,000 burberry mink version is just out of reach) :

Meadham Kirchoff X Topshop.

Thursday saw the unveil of Edward Meadham and Benjamin Kirchoff's beautiful and eerily whimsical collaboration with highstreet giant Topshop. The London-based design duo have mentioned that the 80 piece technicolour range entitled "The Cherrys" was inspired by their "dream girl band".

The Label have previously worked with TopShop in 2010 creating a small capsule line; highly credited and helped catapult the duo into fashion's mainstream. Renowned for their adventurous and wacky aesthetic Meadham and Kirchoff have truly outdone themselves; the collection having elements of a childhood fantasy.

The incredible attention to detail is obvious from chunky rainbow heels to frilly baby doll dresses adorned with cartoon figures and tonnes of glitter. The dynamic duo's emphasis on femininity is displayed in the candy-floss faux fur, frill trims and ruffles.

Despite the more is more decorative approach Meadham and Kirchoff take to fashion, there is an item in the collection for everyone the designers describing it as: " An enormous and all encompassing collection which will offer a myriad of choice for any customer to adapt or reject as they see fit". The collection features everything from pvc heart emblazoned playsuits to sweetly coloured fur stoles - all encompassing the MK magic.

The Meadham and Kirchoff' collection is incredible, a design delight and with prices starting from just £8.00 for a pair of socks, anyone can take the wacky wares of this design duo home!
